AEW Courted Former WWE Champion Adam Copeland: Tony Khan Makes a Move

Tony Khan has revealed that a multiple-time former Champion sought him out to ask him to join AEW after their departure from WWE.

AEW has proved to be a very popular spot for ex WWE celebrities since it’s launch during the year the year.

Although there has been plenty of criticism directed at Khan by a few fans, it seems it’s not always AEW President himself that is looking into those employed by WWE instead, they are seeking his advice on joining.

As was revealed by Khan in his conversation with Going Ringside, this was the case for superstar who is rated R Adam Copeland, who joined AEW at the Wrestle Dream pay-per view on October 1 the day following the Edge’s contract WWE WWE had ended.

Khan described how Copeland’s appointment was made and what he thinks about being able to have the Hall of Famer within the company:

“I believe the reason for it was because we were hosting a pay-per view on the 1st of October and it was just the time that Adam Copeland’s contract was due to expire.

“He approached me and, more importantly, for me, and the timing was logical to get Adam Copeland come into AEW.

“He’s among the most renowned wrestlers in the world. I think Adam Copeland is somebody who has the highest quality of matches, and attracts fans from all across the globe to AEW It’s an honour to have Adam Copeland in AEW.

“The Rated R Superstar’ has brought back his rivalry, as well as his long-standing relationship in AEW with Christian Cage, the Patriarch of AEW as well as who is the TNT Champion and with both of them as part of AEW It’s truly extraordinary.”

While Copeland has a plethora of honors from his time with WWE Copeland recently clinched his first championship outside of the WWE and won the TNT Championship from Christian Cage at AEW Worlds Ended in December.

But, it was, of course, a short-lived event because Cage was crowned champion in the following match, thanks to using Killswitch’s (Luchasaurus) top contestant contract that he had gotten earlier in the night.

Despite the loss, Copeland bounced back on this week’s Collision (January 6) beating Griff Garrison.
