AEW Made Company History With Friday’s Collision Event

AEW altered the way things were done this week when they aired an episode live of Rampage on Friday night, before filming the Saturday’s episode of Collision immediately following it. The live show was broadcasted from Oakland Arena situated in Oakland, CA.

The matches featured the show Collision comprised Andrade El Idol against. Daniel Garcia, Dalton Castle against. Nick Wayne, The Workhorse men against. La Faccio ungovernable Roderick Strong against. Darius Martin, Willow Nightingale against. Julia Hart in an AEW TBS Title #1 Contender ship Match, Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Titus Alexander, and Adam Copeland, Darby Allin and Sting against. Lance Archer & The Righteous.

When he appeared during an interview on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that AEW has changed its local marketing strategy. He confirmed Wrestle Tix’s claim the Collision was the second-largest event to be a walk-up in the history of the company.

“Some people are really keen to join the bandwagon. AEW is not doing well and are freezing. There’s been a few signs of life” Meltzer told the media. “And the show that I saw last night wasn’t a fantastic show as compared to, such as the first time and all that stuff It wasn’t filled with great matches however it was certainly not an unwelcome promotion. The reason for that is Oakland as well as the venue they’re in and the amount that it usually draws for WWE. They performed pretty well. They had a fantastic walk-up. This is very interesting since they’ve had a weak performance in advance sales. perhaps that’s due to the price, or perhaps people wait to see what happens, thinking they’ll receive a better deal in the end. Whatever the reason it was, and in many cities, they’ve begun to boost local advertising similar to how the Powerhouse Hobbs has done many media events in during the last few days. It was the second largest walk-up of an AEW television program in history. It beat the [CMPunk] Punk show that aired in Chicago. The show only had 4500 people in the venue However that it was slated to possibly be around three. It didn’t feel like an unusually cold promotional. It’s an unwelcome promotional event.
