Backstage news on Santos Escobar’s heel turn

Rey Mysterio has been sidelined by a knee injury that caused him to undergo surgery less than one week after losing his United States Title to Logan Paul in Saudi Arabia at Crown Jewel.

In the majority the year 2023 Mysterio has been in alignment with Santos Escobar and other members of the LWO as well as Carlito at the time of writing. But, Mysterio had a disagreement with Escobar in the sense that Escobar thought that Mysterio was in the camp of Carlito during the last week’s SmackDown.

Escobar turned heel and assaulted Mysterio and slashed Mysterio, who is a Hall of Famer in WWE. Mysterio is expected to remain sidelined for several weeks as a result of the operation.

Pwinsider reports that, after receiving questions from readers if Escobar’s heel flip was because of injury on Mysterio, “it was always planned, and had Rey not gotten hurt, they would gone right into live events doing Rey vs. Escobar.”

WWE had been building slowly toward the heel turning but it wasn’t obvious until it occurred that WWE would perform the turn.
