Bully Ray Advocates a Distinctive AEW Viewing Experience: Shift Your Focus

With an extensive involvement in promotions spanning the diverse tones and styles of ECW, WWE, and TNA, Bully Ray has borne witness to a myriad of pro wrestling expressions throughout his career. While not every wrestling style aligns with his personal preferences, the WWE Hall of Famer acknowledges the inherent subjectivity in the realm of art, where different variations cater to diverse tastes. In a recent segment on “Busted Open Radio,” Bully shared his perspective on AEW and its role in the realm of professional wrestling as an art form.

“When I watch AEW, I intentionally adopt a unique lens because comparing it directly to WWE would lead to undue criticism,” Bully remarked. “It’s essential to recognize that AEW operates as a completely distinct entity—an alternative.”

Despite this acknowledgment, Bully pointed out that there is ample room for critique within AEW. Emphasizing the need for the promotion to function successfully, he maintains that there exists a right and wrong way to present wrestling, although the ultimate judgment remains subjective.

“Professional wrestling is an art form, unequivocally,” Bully continued. “Much like interpreting a Picasso, individuals perceive different nuances. While one might invest a million dollars in a Picasso, personal taste ultimately dictates appreciation. Even if gifted a Picasso, it might not find a place in my home. It’s simply not my cup of tea.”

Returning to the topic of AEW, Bully expressed that the promotion’s storytelling style doesn’t always resonate with his wrestling perspective shaped by the shows of his formative years and his experiences in the industry. Despite the apparent dichotomy, Bully remains committed to approaching AEW with an open mind, recognizing the evolution and diversity within the ever-evolving world of professional wrestling.
