Fireworks on Fox: Mark Briscoe Takes WWE to Task in Social Media Showdown

Numerous iconic phrases in the world of wrestling have origins in everyday language, sparking occasional conflicts. A recent example is the trademark dispute surrounding WWE’s attempt to use the term “Yeet.” Now, a fresh dispute has emerged, this time involving Mark Briscoe and the WWE On Fox social media account.

Mark Briscoe voiced his displeasure on X (formerly Twitter) after the WWE on FOX account used the expression “DEM BOYZ” to caption a photo featuring Bobby Lashley, Montez Ford, and Angelo Dawkins. This phrase has long been linked to Briscoe and his late brother Jay. While “Dem Boyz” is commonly associated with The Briscoes, it has also become a popular colloquialism, notably in African-American Vernacular English, thanks to Wiz Khalifa’s 2014 song “We Dem Boyz.” The connection to WWE deepened when Khalifa’s song was featured on the WWE 2k15 video game soundtrack.

In response, Briscoe tagged WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque in his post, suggesting that the person managing the Twitter account should be fired for their lack of knowledge or slapped for their lack of reverence. Dax Harwood, a former AEW World Tag Team Champion, chimed in, referring to The Briscoes as the “OG Dem Boyz.”

It’s worth noting that Mark’s brother Jay passed away earlier this year at the age of 38. Jay held the ROH World Tag Team Championship alongside Mark at the time of his death. In a tribute to Jay, Mark is scheduled to team up with Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler at ROH Final Battle to face Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castagnoli, and Jon Moxley in a Fight Without Honor match.
