In the most recent episode of the “Grilling JR” podcast, WWE Hall of Hall of Famer Jim Ross gave his thoughts regarding CM Punk coming back for Survivor Series. Ross stated that he had not watched the show live, however his comments went viral and he was able to find out fast about the return of Punk. Ross was happy with Punk’s decision to make a career change.

“It was a perfect booking decision,” Ross stated. “It was a great creative move. (The pop) was sustained chaos. I guarantee you there’s a lot of AEW fans that went to Survivor Series. They’re wrestling fans. They don’t have this brand-bullish*t where I’m only going to support one brand. So you must not really be a wrestling fan then, right? How could you be a wrestling fan and not be happy for the success of others within your industry? I don’t get it. So anyway, it was great booking, good judgment by Paul Levesque. It was the perfect end to the show.”

JR also discussed not always being in agreement with Punk despite being close friends.

“Phil’s a good friend. I was not always with him, but I definitely was more in agreement with him than not on a few of his points. I’m not sure, man. It’s just a friend. I’m pleased to see my friends achieve satisfaction in their chosen profession. I hope he has the best success in his endeavors. I’m not a fan of all the crap that he was involved in. I think he might have handled things a bit differently than most people do when you take a look back. The bottom line is that he left, and he was very gracious quick and I was awed by that surprise.”

Ross added Ross also said that Punk is among the people who check up on him to check what he’s up to. Conrad Thompson later clarified that Ross’ remarks regarding Punk’s “sh*t that went on with him” relate to events that took place during his previous stint in WWE.
