New Company President Takes the Helm at NJPW in Recent Appointment

In an intriguing turn of events within NJPW, the in-ring maestro Hiroshi Tanahashi has assumed the prestigious position of President in the company.

According to NJPW:

Following a meeting of the board of directors and shareholders of New Japan Pro-Wrestling on December 23, 2023, a significant shake-up in the company’s management has been announced.

President & Representative Director: Hiroshi Tanahashi

Director: Hitoshi Matsumoto (Chief of Business Production, TV Asahi)

Director: Taro Okada (President & CEO, Bushiroad Fight) *Mr. Okada’s role is part-time

Effective December 23, Takami Ohbari and Michiaki Nishizawa will step down from their roles as President/Representative Director and Director, respectively.

Profile of the newly appointed President/Representative Director:

Born on November 13, 1976, in Ogaki City, Gifu, Hiroshi Tanahashi graduated in law from Ristumeikan University. Joining NJPW in 1999, he made his debut in October of the same year. Tanahashi clinched the IWGP Heavyweight Championship for the first time in 2006, an unprecedented achievement of eight times, and secured four pro-wrestling MVP titles, earning him the title of the ‘Ace’ of New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

A press conference is slated for December 26 at 1 PM JST to elaborate on the aforementioned changes.
