Matt Riddle Takes the Leap to New Japan Pro Wrestling, Challenges NJPW World Television Champion
In a bold move, former WWE star Matt Riddle is set to make his mark in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) and has issued a direct challenge to the reigning NJPW World Television Champion. The announcement came through a video package showcased at NJPW New Year Dash on January 5, featuring Riddle flaunting his flashy car and demonstrating his MMA style before formally extending the challenge to Hiroshi Tanahashi.
The NJPW fans responded with applause as Riddle passionately called out the Ace of New Japan. However, Tanahashi seemed to be unfamiliar with his challenger, stating through the commentary team’s translation: “I’ll do it… but, I have no idea who that guy is. So, I’ll have to go back and do some research first.”
Riddle, expressing his enthusiasm for joining NJPW, disclosed that wrestling for the promotion was a long-standing item on his bucket list. Additionally, he revealed his decision to shed his “goofball” WWE character, assuring fans that he is ready to unveil his true in-ring prowess.
