Rey Mysterio wrestled with a knee injury for several months before getting surgery

Rey Mysterio is unfortunately on the sidelines due to another knee injury which caused him to undergo surgery. He had surgery earlier this week. This brings the number of knee surgeries he’s endured in his professional career, more than 10.

In Crown Jewel, Mysterio lost the US titles in the hands of Logan Paul in Saudi Arabia before being omitted from television the following month on SmackDown. Santos Escobar turned heel and took aim at him as Escobar was of the opinion that Mysterio was aligning with Carlito.

Timeframe for return

When he was during an interview on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that Mysterio was afflicted with the injury for three months, and will not be able to compete for at most an entire month and a quarter.

“So the agreement with Rey is that he will be out for 6-8 weeks. The meniscus was torn for 3 months,”” Meltzer explained. “But the concept was that due to his involvement in the Logan Paul match and also the angle, but most importantly due to the Logan Paul match being in Saudi the country, he would like to remain. The basic idea was to remain in Saudi to be defeated by Logan Paul and then immediately make an angle against Santos.”

Future plans

Many fans felt that the heel turn was not done in time as well as Meltzer said that they could’ve been doing teases earlier. It is planned for there to be the group fighting. group battle after Mysterio comes back. Mysterio along with Carlito will fight Escobar, Joaquin Wilde, and Cruz Del Toro. It’s unclear who will receive the LWO name, or whether WWE will continue to use the brand name.

“But there’s a team versus group thing. Carlito is expected to be in Rey as well Santos is with at the very least in the present, Cruz and Joaquin. I’m not sure where Zelina is going. So, that’s what’s happening there.” Meltzer said.
