Sheamus Believes WWE Missed the Chance to Main Event WrestleMania 39

Sheamus of WWE has claimed that the Intercontinental Championship bout at WrestleMania should have headlined the event.

Intercontinental champ GUNTHER won his gold back in a triple threat match at WrestleMania 39 Sunday. He beat Sheamus and Drew McIntyre, retaining his title.

Many fans considered this match to be the most exciting of WWE’s WrestleMania Weekend. This match took place on WrestleMania’s Sunday card, despite being relatively low.

Sheamus told Virgin Media Sports Stories he thought the Triple Threat Match for the Intercontinental Titles should have taken place last.

Sheamus stated that he has a few goals for his WWE career.

“The IC Title” is it. I too want to headline WrestleMania. I’d like to be in the main event of WrestleMania too. I’ll give you another. Two things I would like to achieve are winning the IC Title at WrestleMania and competing in the main WrestleMania event.

“I should have headlined WrestleMania either last year or next year (2023). It should not have come last. The match stole the show at WrestleMania. Match-wise, nothing came close to my match with Gunther and Drew.

“I knew that would be the case.” I was close to (winning) the title in Mania. It just got taken away.

WrestleMania39 was headlined with a WWE Undisputed Universal Championship. Cody Rhodes, the champion, lost in a controversial match to Roman Reigns due to interference by Solo Sikoa.

Reigns will then defend the gold at Royal Rumble in 2024 against LA Knight (Randy Orton), AJ Styles (AJ Styles) and LA Knight after the Bloodline interfered with the #1 contenders on Friday’s SmackDown.
