Swerve Strickland’s World Title Push: AEW’s Statement on the Rumors

Rumors surrounding a potential AEW World Championship challenge have prompted a response from a well-known AEW star.

Following an outstanding 2023, Swerve Strickland is a popular choice among fans to vie for AEW’s top honor in the upcoming year.

The central question remains – when will this pivotal championship opportunity unfold?

During an interview with Freddie Prinze Jr. on the Wrestling with Freddie podcast, Strickland was questioned about the timeline for his potential championship triumph.

Strickland chose not to commit to a specific timeframe, emphasizing a preference for letting events transpire organically.

He stated:

“At this point, I don’t want to set a rigid timetable. Since joining AEW, everything has been happening at a rapid pace. Winning the AEW tag titles within six months wasn’t something I had planned, but it happened.

“Since joining AEW, I’ve had one of the fastest title victories in the company, second only to FTR. Additionally, we made history as the first African-American tag team to secure the titles.

“Winning titles isn’t a meticulously planned process. You let the universe guide you.

“November 18 holds particular significance, marking the Texas Deathmatch at Full Gear, precisely two years since my release from WWE.

“Such events can’t be scripted; it’s about alignment.

“I believe that becoming the first African-American World Champion in AEW will align when the time is right. I can’t force it or plan for it.”

Despite Strickland’s relaxed approach, recent events on Dynamite (January 3) suggest that he may be among the early contenders to challenge the new champion, Samoa Joe.

While a potential third match with Hangman Page might precede Strickland’s championship pursuit, another AEW star seems poised to issue a bold challenge to Joe following AEW Collision (January 6).
