An unfortunate incident took place during the January 12 episode on WWE SmackDown, when a match between Carmelo Hayes and Austin Theory was cut short after a fumbled Avalanche Spanish Fly.

Theory attempted to do the move and both players took a tumble, which caused the game to be reduced to.

Thankfully, both of them were able to leave without injury The incident caused a major shift in Theory.

In an interview with West Sport, Theory said that he’s since pulled out of his move following the terrifying accident on SmackDown.

He added:

“Well I’ll leave all jokes aside with respect to the inside of that rings and the actions we take the risk is very high. No whether you’ve done it a hundred times you want to train or go through the motion routine but it’s a real thing and there’s a risk involved. Two human bodies performing something that is superhuman.

“In this situation with Carmelo Hayes I’m trying to do the move I’ve performed a number of times. It just happens that as we go through the turn that his back foot is smacking the rope on top. This means that all the energy of our rotation and then his foot hitting the top rope, it sends us straight down. Based on this video clip, it seems crazy. In all honesty, after this, I could have been paralyzed, or my career may have ended. It’s possible that I’d been injured, and even fractured my neck, there’s many reasons, but when we fell I let go to get myself back up and move my head to the left. When we came down on the ground, his head struck my face quite brutally. However, when we lay there, I felt great I didn’t feel shaken or lost, or the sensation of is something wrong? I felt fine.

“But simultaneously it’s an incredibly frightening moment, particularly when you’re in a situation where you experience something that isn’t right and isn’t right. Watching the video footage back of me upside down in front of my head, amazing. Thank you very much for that. this move is now retired from Austin Theory.”

Theory was involved in an fight in a dispute with an Australian journalist prior to Elimination Chamber in the form of a video which has been made public as the kayfabe.
