Rey Mysterio has been sidelined by a knee injury that caused him to undergo surgery. WWE removed him from the show just two weeks ago on SmackDown because Mysterio was in a match alongside Santos Escobar and other members of the LWO as well as Carlito at the time of writing.
To put him out of the picture, Mysterio had a disagreement with Escobar because Escobar believed that Mysterio was supporting Carlito in the previous episode of SmackDown. Escobar went on the attack and turned heel. Mysterio and slashed his WWE Hall of Famer. Mysterio is likely to be out for a few weeks because of the operation.
In the past week Escobar made a powerful heel-related promo promoting Mysterio which led to him attacking the fellow members of The LWO before Carlito was able to fend him off. They will play in a singles contest during Survivor Series.
The strategy
In an interview on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that WWE plans for Dragon Lee to get involved in the show. WWE has been awestruck by Lee since he joined them because they believe Lee has a lot of potential and could be could be the successor to Rey Mysterio, so they quickly moved him onto the main roster after NXT. Since joining the main roster He was winning matches.

Meltzer said there’s been a discussion of bringing in Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo to join Escobar to run the team.
