The return of Punk to WWE occurred after he was fired in a retaliation action by AEW the 2nd of September, following an investigation into the incident backstage in All in at Wembley Stadium.

The return of CM Punk to WWE is extremely polarizing for both the fans and those within the organization, and one of the biggest stars has confirmed the sentiments.

In an interview with Former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley spoke about CM Punk’s return. He noted that he talked to a lot of individuals about it and received mixed reactions.

Lashley has also stated that he believes Punk will need to get up the ranks of business instead of being merely handed praises.

He added:

“I really don’t know what to say, to be truthful with you. I actually left around the time Punk began to gain steam. Punk was there however he didn’t really perform anything during that time. I’m sure he made an enormous impact on WWE in the time he was there.

“I have spoken to a few of the guys who have known him, and they had mixed opinions. Some people are extremely opposed to it, while others are”Ah you know, whatever. But it’s the world of opportunities. If he returns and aids into the program, then that’s a business aspect of it. I don’t know Punk in a personal way. When I was fighting him, Punk was at UFC. I placed my money on him, therefore he might due me a small amount (laughs). Twice! I thought, ‘What is it you’re doing? Come on.’

“But I’m hoping that the whole issue is like everybody else. I’m sure for integrity reasons I’m aware that he’s the name of a household name. He’s returning and going to make some huge numbers. But I’d like to see him work for something. I’m hoping that they don’t let him be one of the people who think, ‘Oh, that’s fine, he’ll return with a win at the Rumble, and we’ll perform this, we’re going to accomplish this. I’m hoping they provide him with an opportunity to prove that he is loyal to company and the other people working the business. Let everyone know that some of the negative critics, and some of those who aren’t satisfied with him being there I’m hoping he gets the chance to get way back to the top of the ladder and not be a victim of the system due to the fact that he might have negotiated an important contract that let him accomplish the things he wanted to do…”
